Quest 100 Charity Ride - 2011

The inaugural Quest 100 Charity Ride was held over the weekend of the 18 and 19 June 2011 and was the brainchild of Michael Callow, Partner at Schultz Toomey O'Brien Lawyers.

The idea started to take shape late in 2010 when Rick Chapman (Go Transit) and Michael participated in the Gympie to Maroochydore leg of a charity ride that stretched from Cairns to Sydney. Scott Gilbertson (who joined us on our ride) and David Bonne raised over $200,000 by cycling 3,000km in 30 days for C2C for Kids.

This experience inspired Michael to do something on a smaller scale and with the help of Travis Schultz, Michael Shadforth, Rick Chapman and Mark O’Neil the Quest 100 Charity Ride was born. The boys gained the support of Quest Community Newspapers, Go Transit, Qld Advertising, Schultz Toomey O’Brien Lawyers, Poole’s Insurance Brokers, Pro Cycles and Garry Crick Auto who helped make the idea become a reality.

In what was an incredible effort, the riders (a group of 38 men and one woman) raised in excess of $50,000 for Cystic Fibrosis Qld.

The ride stared from Tanawha Convenience and headed for Noosa via Chevallum, Palmwoods, Woombye, Nambour, Cooroy and Pomona. They returned to Tanawha the following day via the David Low Way and clocked up approximately 170km over the weekend.

Michael Callow said  "This is an outstanding result. Our original target was $20,000 as this is the first year we have run the event, but the community has really supported us and helped us to reach $50,000. We are so pleased to be able to raise funds to help such a worthwhile charity”.

The weekend proved to be a great start to what will now become an annual event.  Next years ride is planned for the weekend of 16th & 17th June 2012.
