Over $100K raised for Wishlist

In an impressive display of generosity, 550 of the Sunshine Coast’s most high profile business people raised over $100K for a worthy cause with the support of Samantha Armytage, Damien Leith and a fully charged Justice Crew on Friday, September 16.

The Wishlist Spring Carnival Lunch which is supported by Coastline BMW, has become one of the Coast’s most glamorous and well-supported events.  Guests bid on over 100 auction items during the course of the afternoon to raise funds for the Sunshine Coast Koping (SCKoping) program.  The camps delivered by the program produce fantastic results for Sunshine Coast children who are affected by a parent or sibling who has a mental health or drug and alcohol condition.

Lisa Rowe, manager of Wishlist, was amazed at the generosity of those attending and believes the impact these camps have on children affected by these difficult situations should not be underestimated.

“We have kids saying these camps saved their lives when they find themselves in such desperate circumstances they have nowhere to turn.  The camps see children aged between 9 to 18 years enjoy a respite from situations which are often very confronting and all-consuming.  They provide a strong therapeutic component to help develop the children’s coping skills and resilience,” said Lisa.

Many believed last year’s appearance of Jennifer Hawkins at the event could not be trumped but the combination of Justice Crew’s awe-inspiring performance and the incredible set by Damien Leith, the committee appeared to achieve just that.

“We had so many guests commenting that this was the best year we’ve had, so the pressure is already on for next year!  Thankfully we have a group of creative and dedicated people led by the fantastic chair of the organising committee, Travis Schultz who are already thinking about 2012,” said Lisa Rowe, Manager of Wishlist.

The lunch was hosted by Samantha Armytage and local radio jock, Todd Widdicombe and this year’s Fashions on the Field saw an impressive display of the Coast’s most stylish.  The best dressed awards were presented to Cath Brown and James Curnow who each took home an impressive T.W. Steel watch valued at over $850 and kindly donated by Oro Diamonds and Gold.

Major auction items included a full wrap on a Sunshine Coast bus for four months donated by Go Transit which raised $11,500, the Hot 91.1 and Zinc 96.1 advertising package which went for $9,250, the exclusive Barossa and Eden Valley Premium Wine Tasting Experience donated by Think Office Equipment which went for $8,000 and the 102 bottles of wine from Travis Schultz’s personal cellar which raised $7,500.
