The position is full time and the successful applicant will need to have some previous experience in a Family Law support role.

Duties in this role will include:

•    General secretarial tasks
•    Diary management
•    Dictation
•    Producing and amending documents, including letters, faxes, etc.
•    File management, including opening and closing matters
•    Billing – preparing and issuing bills at the end of each month
•    Preparation of Court documentation
•    Preparation of Briefs to Barristers
•    Legal Aid matters

The successful applicant will:

•    have some previous experience in a similar role
•    have strong organisation and communication skills
•    have good computer and typing skills (with high degree of accuracy)
•    have excellent spelling, grammar and punctuation
•    possess a flexible and proactive approach
•    have a calm demeanour
•    be open to learning new tasks to increase their knowledge
•    be open to working within a small team environment

Working hours are 8am to 5pm with a 1 hour lunch break.   Start date – asap.

Family Lawyer – Position Available

Schultz Toomey O’Brien Lawyers are seeking an energetic and motivated Lawyer with both experience and a passion for Family Law to commence at their Sunshine Coast office (located in Birtinya).

File load will be a mix of Legal Aid and private work.   Travel to and from Brisbane will be required for Court appearances, mediations etc.

Position Vacant – Paralegal – Litigation

Schultz Toomey O’Brien Lawyers are seeking an energetic and experienced Paralegal for their Litigation Department.  This position is for the Sunshine Coast office (located in Kawana Waters).

This is a 12 month maternity leave contract position with the possibility of ongoing employment at the end of the 12 months.

The successful applicant would be providing additional paralegal support to the Managing Partner of the firm who also heads up the Litigation Department.

Specific duties in this role will include:

  • Drafting Notices of Claim, Lists of Documents, Statements of Loss & Damage, Applications, Affidavits and the like;
  • Taking and preparing Statements of witnesses and care providers;
  • Organising compulsory conferences;
  • Drafting and preparing Briefs to Counsel;
  • Drafting correspondence;
  • Dealing with mail/emails/faxes from other parties and clients;
  • Dictaphone work;
  • Instructing Counsel at Court;
  • Travelling (for example to Court) including to Brisbane;
  • Attending meetings, conferences etc;
  • Significant client contact; and
  • Potentially managing own files.

 The role will involve significant training being provided in relation to different pieces of legislation within the personal injuries field (WCRA, PIPA, MAIA & CLA) as well as the pre-Court procedures and Court process – knowledge of which will be essential.

There will also be a reasonable amount of commercial litigation work which will require a good understanding of the Court rules and protocols.

The position is one which will require overtime to be worked as and when required and the role requires someone with time management skills and the ability to prioritise tasks when there are competing deadlines.

In addition, the successful applicant will:

  • have strong organisational and communication skills;
  •  have good computer and typing skills (with high degree of accuracy)  – knowledge of Open Practice an advantage;
  • have excellent spelling, grammar and punctuation;

  • have strong people skills.

The position is full time with working hours of 8am to 5pm Monday to Friday.

The role encompasses all of the usual Reception and Administration duties including:

  • Answering incoming calls
  • Meeting and greeting clients
  • Co-ordinating bookings of boardrooms and meeting rooms
  • Organising couriers
  • Collection and distribution of incoming mail
  • Processing of outgoing mail
  • Maintaining a daily appointment schedule
  • Ordering of stationery and other required items
  • Photocopying

This role will be responsible for a wide range of business development and marketing activities – everything from preparing press releases, to events co-ordination, to maintaining website and other social media platforms, designing new marketing campaigns, client database management and developing the individual marketing plans for the firm’s Lawyers.
